Abstract

Laboratory work is a complex process that in the overall treatment of patients aims to report the results of laboratory tests. Issued report is relevant by itself and has become a key document on making medical decisions; it must above all be credible and properly interpreted. Correct interpretation requires good knowledge and recognition of all the potential factors that may affect the result of laboratory parameters. This paper presents an overview of the possible interferences and errors. The intention is to assist in the interpretation of laboratory test results, with special reference to pediatric laboratory medicine. Knowing and recognizing the possible interference would significantly reduce the proportion of errors and increase the overall quality of health care.
