Abstract

In this review paper, the authors bring basic knowledge on essential fatty acids and their effect on early brain development. In particular, the authors stress the importance of the omega-3 fatty acids docosahexaenoic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid in brain structure and functioning as well as the importance of optimal intake of these nutrients during pregnancy and early childhood.
